Primary cabinetry in cherry; island in black painted maple. Giallo Fiorito polished granite countertops.
The design addressd two important goals - open the kitchen to the dining room, and include the family's beautiful heirloom butcher block table. The practical work layout also providesin high-tableseating at the island, which sneaks a bit into the dining room through the new archway.
"To say we purchased a "Fixer Upper" would be a huge understatement. Tips from contractors, friends and family were a big help throughout the process..........Except for the kitchen! My Grandfather's 100+ year old butcher block (which was a must in the design) had to be incorporated. No matter how hard we tried no one could make it both aesthetically pleasing AND functional. Nobody except Nancy that is. The "L" shaped island was a brilliant idea. The block fit in perfectly and not only is used daily but is the focal point of our kitchen/dining area. We couldn't be happier with it. I only wish Grandpa Spar were around to see it! Thank you SITK!!!
