Project #10809

Description

Quintessential quarter sawn oak cabinetry with craftsman styling. Solid surface acrylic countertops with integral sink. Ubatuba granite as accent counter. Solid oak table and chairs; tough, easy-clean PVC tile floor. Tumbled marble splash.

Specifications

Framelsaa cabinetry in primary kitchen - to maximize available storage space. Framed version of same cabinetry to creat furniture-like hutch area - with "high-boy" drawer stack. For this new room lay-out, we had to eliminate one window - but left the window present on the home's pebble-dash exterior. See photo. The window at right is still present outside, but inside is hidden behind the wall, behind the range. A new skylight more than makes uip for lost light from the closed-in window.

Thoughts from the customer...

Our pebble dash, five step ranch style home was designed and built by an Italian American who raised his family and lived in this house for more than fifty years. We became the second owners of a solidly built home with the original – custom designed kitchen cabinetry and other unique wood and floor treatments throughout the house.

“Easy fixes,” such as paint, carpet, lighting fixtures, took place soon after we became the new home owners. Years passed and the time seemed right to remodel the original kitchen at some level. We had many questions and concerns when facing the remodeling of a kitchen. Who do we hire? How much could we afford? When should we begin the project? How far would our budget take us? The biggest concern we faced was not knowing how long “our life as we knew it,” would be modified while the remodeling project took place.

Friends of ours had hired Someone’s in the Kitchen, years earlier. They recommended we meet with them and assured us we would be pleased with the friendly and professional nature of the business owners Susan and Mark and their staff.

In June of 2008 we signed a contract with SITK with an understanding that our project would begin following a few procedures and processes necessary in a remodeling project such as ours. We had agreed to “gut-out” our kitchen down to the sub-floor and change all aspects of the original 1950 design. Quarter sawn oak cabinets were chosen, with solid surface acryliccountertops. ... and we highlighted our display area with a stone countertop. We were very excited to begin our project!

Two weeks following the signing of a contract with SITK, an injury forced us to post-pone the intended starting date. SITK responded with compassionate understanding and assured us that everything would remain in place and they would be ready to begin when we were. Several months later our project was again on track. We were fortunate to have an alternate – full kitchen in our basement, which became our living quarters for the months that followed.

The staff at SITK informed and educated us and the skilled craftsmen were mindful of each and every detail that would contribute to the final outcome of our new kitchen. They recommended, ordered and installed all of our appliances and graciously handled the ordering of the solid oak table and chairs we first saw and sat at in their showroom.

Art Smith, author of the cookbook Back To The Table, says it best… “The simple ritual of the shared meal reunites us with our families and brings balance to our lives.” SITK created for us the kitchen we had dreamed of and an environment that brings much joy to us when preparing a meal, entertaining friends and family or just simply enjoying life.
