I see some cool kitchens labeled as “transitional” style. What is this?
Not contemporary, not traditional – in between. Most commonly seen with flat-panel cabinet doors – often with wider-than-average door-frame dimensions. Deeper stain colors on closed-grain woods (alder, cherry, birch, maple). Brighter-than traditional color palettes for counters, back-splash treatment, paint.Usually stainless steel appliances – clean-line-styled. Often chimney-style stainless ventilation hood. Smooth, prominent door-drawer hardware. Crisp lighting. Mild, not active textures/patterns – open wall and cabinet spaces.
